Adobe Illustrator alternative? Is Affinity Designer an adequate replacement? Or do you have another suggestion? Question self. Is Affinity Designer worthwhile? The price seems great, but how is the usability of the program? I like it, actually prefer it to Illustrator Just download the 10 day trial and affinity designer vs adobe illustrator reddit free download if it’s for you. Thanks for the help, will surely try to figure out the functionality before asking though, don’t want to be a pest.

As an intermediate illustrator user, I really like it. However I find the iOS version great for showing somebody my work and doing a couple of quick edits or sketches right as they comment affinity designer vs adobe illustrator reddit free download it. I use it The main feature I lack is warping text, which ironically forces me to use Illustrator and paste that shape into Affinity once in a while. Overall I just find the user interface much more intuitive though, and my workflow is much faster compared to Illustrator.

You select objects by dragging a window around them, which means you won’t affinity designer vs adobe illustrator reddit free download absolutely everything that you’ve just dragged across trying to select that one piece of text. It will only select the objects that were within that drag-window, drastically speeding up my work.

Affinity also doesn’t crash 3 times on start-up. I’ve been using Affinity for about 3 years and it’s only crashed a handful of times actually. If you don’t need to open or share work in AI format then you could probably ignore Illustrator completely. This is good information. I probably will be working alone for a good while, won’t need to open illustrator files immediately, so Affinity Design could be what I’m looking for.

I currently have a very old edition of Illustrator CS5, it’s crashing madly, but I could use it посетить страницу opening older files and such. I’d love to just break free from Adobe’s grip and stay with a program less evil, haha. It’s really very good, especially for the price.

I pay the same amount each month just to have Adobe CC which really stings. There’s also a pixel persona great for illustration /23369.txt lets you work with the file as if it’s a raster file, adding textures and selecting individual pixels whilst still keeping everything editible. I moved on from CS5 myself after.

It wanting to use adobes expensive and bloated software anymore, as good as it ссылка be. The cost certainly adds up over a year, though to be fair if you’re using Adobe stuff commercially then the monthly fee shouldn’t be a major business cost.

Couldn’t agree more. It’s absurdly expensive. If you get the chance to check it out, let me know what you think. It probably also depends on if you’re keeping everything in house or need to share with other people.

Other companies would probably expect AI files. If you’re doing web work, SVG is probably a better generic format, and then you also get tools like Inkscape you can use much less useful for preprint stuff. Also, you can приведенная ссылка Affinity’s settings to have shapes copied as SVGs.

I do this when I want to bring something into Inkscape. Unfortunately I normally use Illustrator ironic or in rare cases I’ll have посмотреть больше the warped type by hand and will just be vectorising it in Affinity. Does Inkscape handle warping text? Maybe that’s an alternative. You need to either copy into Illustrator first, then into ID, or just inter the shape as an actual image file the больше информации approach, though I like to be able to update the colours of vector shapes throughout my InDesign file without having to change X number affinity designer vs adobe illustrator reddit free download EPS files.

Yes, but it’s a much more manual process. Depending on your workflow, it probably could be. For me, it’s missing some really basic must-haves like “select same Especially for affinity designer vs adobe illustrator reddit free download on a budget.

For iPhone and iPad there is Vectornator. It’s for free and a Mac version will arrive later this year. Thanks, I’ll check this out, but I really need a desktop application since my iPad is so freaking old gen 3.

It’s so nice and fast but boy, it still lacks a lot. CorelDraw is my go to for thing Affinity cannot do but it ain’t cheap. It’s true. It is so deep and dense in what it can do that it rivals PS. Maybe you could find an old YouVersion used? A lot of what has been added in the last three or four iterations has been bells and whistles.

CorelDraw Suite is pretty impressive, very tempting. I детальнее на этой странице have a friend that can get this for me rather inexpensively. I wish, he doesn’t work there or anything, he works in the school district and Corel has a rather steep discount for education. Absolutely a fine replacement.

We use both AD and AI at our newspaper to design ads and layout elements. The only time I use AI these days is to affinity designer vs adobe illustrator reddit free download an old ai file. As others have mentioned, AD rarely crashes and the UI is modern and intuitive. I find I work significantly faster in AD. Wow, that’s very high praise. I’ve downloaded the trial version, but will more than purchase the full version sooner rather than later.

Overall, I’d say its good value for the price you pay. Not comparing it to Illustrator, I was able to pick it up fairly easily for some small logo projects which is what I typically do. Comparing it to Illustrator, there are a few quirks and differences. Affinity designer vs adobe illustrator reddit free download you’re primarily using it for hobby work and light portfolio work, I’d recommend it.

I’m still pretty optimistic for the future and think it could level with Illustrator some day. I downloaded the affinity designer vs adobe illustrator reddit free download version, hoping that I can get the hang of it in a few days and see what this app can do, really looking forward to not having to pay the Adobe monster.

Have you purchased the Designer workbook? Now I’m reconsidering, if the trial goes well I would be interested in the Workbook. I ended up ordering the apps and their respective books. The Photo book showed in three days even though it was showing as back ordered, while the Design book is on back order until the end of May.

I don’t think they have the sale anymore, will wait on it to get the books, but will definitely. I do freelance logo design and branding and have been using AD and AP for a couple months now. My main issue was the lack of progress with AD even with a roadmap.

Warp and text on path turned out to be dealbreakers for me so I use illustrator cs6 in a VM these days. Do you know if there are plans to add Warp and text path to Affinity Designer in the future, or if it’s in the works in the Beta version? Not a clue.

I recall the Affinity rep in the forums basically looking at the bug report and saying “I don’t know what you want” I’m not hopeful. Not sure if it’s relevant to you, but Affinity apps do NOT support right to left languages. And they don’t consider it a priority. You may want to give Amadine a try, new and inexpensive alternative to AI. No subscription.

Just launched Imgn, a free, collaborative Illustrator alternative that runs in the browser. Use of this site constitutes acceptance of our User Agreement and Privacy Policy.

Affinity designer vs adobe illustrator reddit free download.Affinity Designer vs. Adobe Illustrator: Can Designer Replace Illustrator?

As designers and artists, we need to help each other grow. Special cases such as contests , please contact the mods. Chat about Affinity in the Affinity Discord channel!

Affinity Discord. Adobe Illustrator vs Affinity Designer Designer self. I am planning to get Affinity Designer but wanted to get all go your opinions and suggestions before I make the purchase.

The only reason I am considering the switch is due to the cost. A one time purchase is way more appealing that a subscription. Can Designer do all the things I mentioned above? Are there any things Illustrator can do that Designer cannot? You can download a free trial from the website and try to do all the things you usually do. There are still some bugs and lacking features, but it’s a great alternative. I bought the whole suit and couldn’t be happier.

Long time Adobe user here I absolutely love Affinity designer! Never going back Adobe. Sure Adobe has more features and has been around forever AD was redesigned packing all that history into a new and in my opinion, more elegant user interface.

Also Affinity is just on version 1. If i was you then i would try it out with a test version and then you can always decide. Also if you use the search function on reddit then you can find many topics related to this subject. Just a small addition to what you said, because somehow most users I’ve been talking to haven’t taken notice of Affinity’s apps prior than ish:. Although the version is still 1. But a first version for windows was available in already. That’s because the updates are minimal.

People still waiting years for small things like palette import support for ipad etc. Their development is slow but the software is great for the average users Pros tent to go with adobe tho.

I had enough knowledge in Ai that I was creating content, but the cost was killing me. I tried Affinity Designer and thought that it had almost everything. I think taking the risk and diving deep into AD is a great option. The cost is only for one series, as far as i understand it.

That means, should there ever be a Designer 2. And it doesnt appear to be the programmers plan to add more tools in this series. I got into AD because i was fed up with the bugs and limitations of Inkscape, but keep going back, because AD isnt all that perfect.

For example: AD has no effects other than Power Duplicate. So no Blend, Warp effects that are vector, no real vector brushes AD’s brushes are bitmaps stretched along a path , no filter, etc. Inkscape’s snapping system is in some aspects superior to AD’s and i also like the Bezier Tool better.

Plus Inkscape has a live tracing function. AD’s advantages over Inkscape are: CMYK, a layer system with one object per layer, easy clipping and masking, Pixel Persona and an interface designed for professional artists. In my opinion, AD isnt so much an AI clone but a vector program for illustrators, with a focus on drawing.

You can do logo design, but i find it challenging compared to Inkscape. Yes, you’re right. You pay for the current version 1. But Affinity stated multiple times, that even after a V2. They don’t expire. Also, I agree with the other points you mentioned. Especially about the “replacement” statement.

Affinity’s apps are not yet a replacement for industry standard design software like Photoshop or Illustrator. The “curse of Adobe” is its monopolistic stand in the design industry.

If it’s required that you work in a team for a project, you most likely won’t get around using Adobe’s products. Been using illustrator since the early 2ks. Made the switch coz I couldn’t afford it. Never ever looked back on illustrator and Corel draw and it was an over night change. I don’t understand how people even work on inkscape.

It’s just a terrible software, sure I give credit for being free, and worked upon by some passionate talented individuals, but man it’s so damn buggy. Ad is so smooth. Worked on some really illustration heavy files on my basic laptop, it worked perfect. I bought photo and publisher, and they are equally great. I find it very user friendly, irrespective of what people say. Alls not perfect in ad though.

I doesn’t have trace, warp and magic fill, and some other important features. If you see the official forum you’ll see all that people are asking for, some for years and still no where in sight. But I’ve worked around every single issue. Sure takes a bit of work, but I did. Is this an illustrator clone, no. It’s a great software in its own right, and it’s been 6 months now and I will never ever go back to Adobe.

Ad, ap and apb are my holy trinity. Designer is very similar to Ai. Artboards work slightly differently but overall you’ll be very familiar with it. That said, it’s missing a few features that may or may not be essential to your workflow, so I’d recommend downloading the trial and keep Illustrator for a month just in case. Count how often you have to open Ai due to Designer’s limitations and make up your mind from there.

Still use AI tho. If Designer had something like the shapebuilder tool The workflows are very similar and most people say it has pretty much feature parity give or take.

But the only person who can really decide if it’s worth it is yourself! Some people prefer designer. Some people prefer illustrator.

I agree that they should try a 30 day trial, but the comparison between AD and AI are not and unfortunately it isn’t terribly close either. As far as non-adobe software, AD will be the most intuitive for someone used to working in Illustrator, but there are quite a few missing features as put best by the comment above. I use it everyday for basic social and event promotion and I can usually find what I need.

The UI is different, but has good harmonies with itself. First off, Affinity Designer does not come even close to providing the tools that Illustrator does. I have experience with several professional design courses and none of them teaches Affinity products. Anyone claiming to be a professional designer and then claiming to have moved from Adobe to Affinity on cost grounds is either a liar or should seriously be considering another career.

Well, you could listen to a person who has worked as a professional graphic designer for over forty years. A person with an honours degree in graphic design from UAL. And a person who has worked for clients all over the world. Use of this site constitutes acceptance of our User Agreement and Privacy Policy. All rights reserved. Want to join?
